Market Values command (Accounts menu)

Use this command to display a form that allows you to edit the beginning and ending market values of individual assets. Ending market values are typically displayed in ending inventory reports and are considered an integral part of the accounting. The beginning market values are needed only by reports that display a beginning inventory with associated market values. Therefore, the beginning market values may be optional in your situation.

Because the data collected on this form is used only in report presentation, it is typically used once for each reporting period after the accounting has otherwise been completed.

Select individual assets from the list provided.

The Market Value Form offers the following options:

Ending Inventory Valuation

Date

Provides a place for you to specify an ending valuation date for the selected asset.

Unit Value

Provides a place for you to specify an ending unit value for the selected asset.

Total Value

Provides a place for you to specify an ending total value for the selected asset.

Beginning Inventory Valuation

The beginning valuation date in a first reporting period is the date of receipt of the initial inventory. For reports for subsequent years, the beginning inventory date is the first day of that reporting period.

No. of Units

Displays the beginning number of units (shares, par value, etc.) for the selected asset.

Unit Value

Provides a place for you to specify a beginning unit value for the selected asset.

Total Value

Provides a place for you to specify a beginning total value for the selected asset.

Copy Unit Value End to Beginning

Provides the option of copying the ending unit values to the beginning unit values. This is helpful when the books have been closed and a new period has been opened or when the reporting period has shifted to the next year.
